Web Hosting Review – Softlayer

I ordered a dualcore 3.0 server from softlayer last Friday. I use this server maily for video encoding, no web site run on this server. Here is my little review:
1. Setup time: After some verification (they need to verify you by phone), I got my server online within 1-2 hours. It’s real fast, much faster then the others. A+
2. Hardware quality: Since I use this server as video encoding, I can tell you their hardware is really good, without any problem. All the things just config well, no problem for hardware, cpu….. A+
3. Network speed: I can’t really tell the network speed, since I only upload video to encode, there are not many outgoing traffic. But from my upload experiences, it works good as well. The speed is just like other quality provider.
4. Support: The sales are nice and really helpful. I haven’t try their tech support, since I don’t actaully need them at this moment
5. Admin interface: Their web admin interface is very user friendly, easy to use. Just a few clicks and you can go to the page that you want. Don’t like some other interfaces, give you a real long list and you need to sort them a real long time.
Here is the summary:
Pro: Fast setup time, good quality hardware, more bandwidth than other providers, good network, easy to use admin interface.
Cron: don’t accept paypal, need to verify by phone.
I think softlayer is a new company, but they know what they are doing. They are target on something that the market is missing. They provide quality hardware at reasonable price, big harddisks and more bandwidth. Hope to see they getting stronager and bigger, give us another alternative to those big providers.
