Long time ago i was looking for a .COM, .NET, .ORG, etc. domain name registrar.
I’ve tried Godaddy, Namecheap, etc. and finally Omnis.
This Omnis review is related only with their domain names services and not with hosting.

The order process:
This is what i like more in Omnis, i can signup for a new domain extremely fast only with 2-3 clicks.
They do not try to offer you more services like hosting, secure whois, etc.
I can choose and order my domain name in about 2 minutes (!) without spending a lot of time reading extra options (like Godaddy).
One bad thing about Omnis is the time they need in order to update the DNS for the new registered domain names.
It is about 4-5 hours for the new domains, a bit more that other firms but that’s it, i can’t have it all.

Omnis Control panel and support:
Easy to use !

All the options are in the same page and you can navigate without any kind of problems.
With some other registrars i’ve been it took me 5 minutes in order to find the DNS modifications options with omnis everything is fast.
They allways answer to my tickets and questions (not very fast, but they answer).

Omnis.com prices:
One of the best i could find:
- .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us and transfer just 7,95$ / year !

I have been with server matrix for about 8 months and this is a short Servermatrix review.

Pre-sales Servermatrix:
I was looking for a self managed P4 low-end dedicated server for one of my clients and i thought to give a try with servermatrix. Since then most of my servers was leased from LT and i would like to try another provider too.
So i’ve sent my pre-sales questions at their support and i got an answer fast enough.
The email was received in about 40-50 minutes and their staff explained to me everything i would like to know.
I’ve made the online payment and after 1,5 days my server was online.
Setup was ok, speed fine, the hardware seems ok, cpanel installed correct.
I believe that 30-35 hours for a Servermatrix dedicated server is a fair time period to wait.

Support servermatrix:
This is where the problems starts.
It seems that for them the most common solution to the problems that their clients have is an OS Reload (extra 25$). I understand that they do not offer fully managed servers but if a client is in really need for support i believe that they could do something better than OS Reloads.
Also i’ve noticed the bad english in the answers i got from their support staff (i’m not english or american but i can say when somebody does not speak english properly).
So, the most of their support staff seems to be located in India or something.

Network Servermatrix:
At the beggining everything was fine. Server very fast and without downtimes.
The last 2-3 month i’ve been with them was one of the worst experience that i had.
Downtimes or outages almost every week and the server was extremely slow almost any time of the day.
I could stay there without support but without a good network ?

Because of their network, i placed a cancelation and moved away.

If you are looking for self-managed server in a good network i do not recommend Servermatrix at all.

I’m located in europe and i reach the server with only 8-10 hops.
Highly recommended company if you are located in Europe !

Another review that i have found in WHT - This one is sended by: maxbear.

Here is the quote.

I ordered a dualcore 3.0 server from softlayer last Friday. I use this server maily for video encoding, no web site run on this server. Here is my little review:

1. Setup time: After some verification (they need to verify you by phone), I got my server online within 1-2 hours. It’s real fast, much faster then the others. A+

2. Hardware quality: Since I use this server as video encoding, I can tell you their hardware is really good, without any problem. All the things just config well, no problem for hardware, cpu….. A+

3. Network speed: I can’t really tell the network speed, since I only upload video to encode, there are not many outgoing traffic. But from my upload experiences, it works good as well. The speed is just like other quality provider.

4. Support: The sales are nice and really helpful. I haven’t try their tech support, since I don’t actaully need them at this moment

5. Admin interface: Their web admin interface is very user friendly, easy to use. Just a few clicks and you can go to the page that you want. Don’t like some other interfaces, give you a real long list and you need to sort them a real long time.

Here is the summary:

Pro: Fast setup time, good quality hardware, more bandwidth than other providers, good network, easy to use admin interface.

Cron: don’t accept paypal, need to verify by phone.

I think softlayer is a new company, but they know what they are doing. They are target on something that the market is missing. They provide quality hardware at reasonable price, big harddisks and more bandwidth. Hope to see they getting stronager and bigger, give us another alternative to those big providers.

I’ve found a nice review about JodoHost in WHT and i would like to share it here.

This is the msg:
JodoHost 1 YR Review

I’ve had a reseller account at JodoHost for about 1 year now. Here is how things are going … for anyone who is interested.

First, let me say that I am a very small web designer and I use the reseller account only for my own web design clients. I have no one who has just purchased hosting from me and does their own website design. I have about 60 clients … so it’s a very small operation. I am still a novice when it comes to the control panel and all the options … most of my clients want straight HTML and email, period. I researched reseller accounts for about 8 months before choosing JodoHost.

Their price continues to be a good value. I haven’t experienced any surprising charges … it’s been very stable and predictable.

However, the quality of service seems to be declining. I don’t know if this is growing pains from over-taxed servers or if they are understaffed, but there are definately more outages and server crashes than when I first signed on. Most of the time problems are acknowledged through email announcements, but more often now I find out there is a problem when I try to work on an account and I can’t get it to function. The email servers seem to be getting VERY slow to respond, and I’m experiencing more and more trouble with dns look up. They seem to be adding new servers all the time, so I think they’re trying to catch up to the demand.

One of the great features is the Live Chat with customer service. This has saved my sanity more than once. Even when they could give me no answers, except that “someone is working on it,” at least I could always contact a real person 24/7. This is a huge commitment by JodoHost and I don’t take it lightly. It is very much appreciated.

On the other hand, the tech support has gone from pretty good to absolutely horrendous. The trouble ticket response time now is anywhere from several hours at the least, to as much as 3-4 days. I’m convinced they are significantly understaffed in this area. For a novice like me, this is very bad. I don’t have to contact them often, but when I do, it is very frustrating to not get an answer or remedy for the problem for hours or a days. Honestly, this has cost be a couple of clients.

Some of the added features that I thought would be great sales tools, turned out to be a pig-in-a-poke. In particular, the osCommerce for online sales has so many bugs that unless you love tinkering with php, forget about getting the thing to work and return accurate sales records. JodoHost does not provide any support for third party software, and they are certainly not responsible for the shortfalls in osCommerce software, but it is something they offer to resellers as a tool and it is frankly useless.

I’m not frustrated enough to move to another reseller … yet. But, my confidence in JodoHost has been undermined. I’m hoping things improve soon. To be fair, this is my first reseller account and perhaps the current state of service is normal, and what I experienced in the beginning was exceptional. All I know is that things have slipped over the past 12 months and I’m more than a bit disappointed.

–

A new problem has appeared over the past few months for all the web hosting companies world wide.
Yahoo email and their filtering - Bulk folder - system !

As many of you know allready, yahoo is filtering emails in order to protect the users from receiving spam.
The problem is that filtering many times has no sense at all !
“Good” Email is blacklisted with no reason, just because their system (Yahoo’s) is not perfect.
It is almost impossible for them to filter only the “bad” emails and for this reason they have placed a button for letting us marking as “Not spam” all the good emails that we receive !
Who checks the bulk folder ? ! This looks like a joke to me.

I recently bought a new server with clean (new) IPs and hosted over there a few domains of mine.
I’m 100% sure that no spam has been sent from this server, but Yahoo did the miracle again!
They blacklisted my server with no reason at all. Just because their system is bad my emails are send in the Bulk folder.

The biggest problem is when hosting companies lose their clients for this reason.
Many clients who have no idea about Yahoo’s policy believe that the hoster is a spamming farm .

I’ve recently see a topic in WHT about a hostgator.com client. He thought that hostgator is hosting spam sites among the other and for that reason he made a public topic in the forum accusing hostgator.
This is not good at all for the hosting industry, Yahoo start ruling the business.
And for a strange reason this stuf started when yahoo has started to offer web hosting services
Strange !

There are 2 ways to get whitelisted in their system.
1. Tell all of your friends and user to mark as “Not spam” your email.
2. Navigate in yahoo’s web site ( http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/ ) and send them the form to exclude your IPs from their black list.

I had initially selected a different provider for my server, and contacted ServerWizards for server management. They ended up offering me a great deal on a server, and I took it (server + management).

I’ve had a number of problems (this is a huge step to go from reseller to dedicated, as many of you know) and ServerWizards has been able to help me every time. They have been extremely professional and competent. Sometimes I think I’m bugging them with all of my questions, but if I am, they haven’t made me feel that way at all. They are very fast at responding to tickets, and that has been the major plus for me, since I’m trying to get this all up and running in a very short period of time.

I’ve been with them for almost a month, and will update this review if anything changes, but so far I would highly recommend this company.

——
Serverwizards is a good solution for a 3rd party support company but i know for sure that also Platinumservermanagement is a nice company too.

It all started back in October when we got the bid to host the World University Karate Championships here in New York. We were quite unsure of who to choose but needed something extremely reliable since over 180 countries would be accessing our website. Myself as well as the other staff at our school have known the owners of The New York NOC for years. Although at the time we did not know they operated a company like this until we asked if they knew anyone who could help. They are very respectful people and know what they are doing when it comes to servers/networking. Let me elaborate.

So we consulted with the owners and told them what we wanted to do. We needed a website created that would be simple yet clean and that would be online 100% of time since many of the officials/competitors lived all over the world and had different time zones. We also needed a server that we could access remotely to keep track of our student base (used it as a backup to our current computer system at the office). Finally, we requested that they come to the school and setup our network here. Granted it wasn’t a terribly difficult job since they were done relatively quickly, however they took the time to explain to us how everything worked and answered all of our questions.

I have searched these forums for other reviews on them and some were bad and some were good. Our review has been great for us to say the least. Their helpdesk is easily accessible and they can be reached by phone at any time or if we leave a voicemail they usually return the call in less than 10-15 minutes.

If we have problems with the computers/network at our school, they come to our place to fix whatever the problem might be. I think that is what we love best about them is the personal touch and friendliness about them.

To rate the server we have with them, it has not had any downtime at all. We currently have Windows 2003 Standard installed and use our student system on it. They perform all the updates on it, patches, etc. No problems with the network either. They use the Peer1 network right now and I’ve been happy with it to say the least. No complaints. So I would give the server a 10/10 thus far.

Support wise I have to give 10/10 mainly because they always answer the phone (we have the owners private number so we call him direct) or if we leave a voicemail on their public line it is always returned promptly. Having to deal with a company locally makes things much easier.
—–

A very interested answer was posted in this review in WHT .
Here’s the info:

Hi, my name is michelle Carr, I had started a company called LpServers with a friend of mine
Basically we were a gameserver company that had sold gameservers, but when we first started out
It was I that had invested money to getting dedicated servers and paying the bills each month.
A few months after I said it would be best to partner up with a company called TheNyNoc(www.thenynoc.com)-currently banned from here.
As it will save us much more money.
So once we partnered up they asked us to sell dedicated servers for them, Which I did solely and had accomplished to sell 4-5dedicated servers in a month frame.
We were also doing good in the gameserver business new clients signing up and generating cashflow but I had only 1 small problem.
I had emailed TheNyNoc asking them :
To please stop blocking clients on msn as this is causing us trouble and can be bad for our reputation, How did i nkow he had been doing this when a few customers contacted me saying NyNoc is no longer on msn and when i can clearly see him.
and he knew what he ahd been doing was wrong.
So I had told them to “stop this or there would be problems between both of the companies” and i didnt want him to block any further.
Well with over a 3-4month bond with them i was recently fired yesterday, and them continuing lpservers and taking all the clients and assests. A company I had started and that now i am locked out from.
Wheres my partner still with thenynoc.
And what they tried to do to ym reputation and me being nice to all my clients which they can backup.
Email: from nynoc
Dear LpServers Clients,

This email is to inform you that we are restructuring the company. One of the major changes will be renaming our company name to NOC Gaming. The new website will be www.nocgaming.net where you will be able to view new packages and new forums.
This move was in part facilitated by an ex-employee whom many of you know fairly well. His name is Michelle Carr and he no longer
he no longer works with us. Mr. Carr was sending threatening emails to one of the owners and was being consistently rude to other staff members. We will not tolerate this behavior from within our company and letting him go is the best decision.

Please fully understand this move. Nothing will be changed in terms of service. For your well being, we suggest not getting contact with Mr. Carr by any
means.

If you have any concerns please email Support@nocgaming.net and feel free to visit our new website at www.nocgaming.net

Thank you,

LpServers ~ Staff

They had changed the company name and took every cleint with them and shutting me off from everyone.
So what did my partner do he listened to thenynoc and he had all the passes to ym msn aim previously and he went ahead and deleted my aim buddies just emptied them out.
And also deleted my msn contacts that dealt with lpservers.

I just wanted to expose THENYNOC AND LPSERVERS NOW KNOWN AS NOCGAMING
Please be aware they will cause you much trouble and grief after all i had worked so hard to get where i am and for it to be taken away.

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=64.34.60.1
And who are the ip address registered to but me. Just for proof, they are also the worst company i have seen yet.
I appreciate everyone for reading this and understanding my point of views from things.
personally right now i feel sadden, angry, and also mad that they went through my personal things and also that they changed the password to ymsteam account so i wouldnt gain entrance to clients game servers
Many of you already know me as LpServers-Carr on wht-irc, they also use no vlans on there network, making it easy to sniff packets and steal ip’s.

If you honestly can tell how crappy i feel deep down isnide to be betrayed lied to and everything to be taken away from you ina moment glance.
I hopew this answeres any questions you have of that company thats banned from here and there ethics.

——
Conclusions are yours…

About 3-4 months ago i was looking for a cheap reseller plan to host a few small sites of mine.
Those site are not profitable and i had no problems at all to choose one of the cheapest plans i could found these days. I’ve seen some good reviews about Resellerzoom.com and i decided to buy hosting from them.
The price was about 5$/month for their budget plan.

I was sure that i will have problems with them all day long ! How is possible to receive decent services for this price ?
Though, after 3 months with them i had almost 0 downtime and 0 problems (only a small issue related with Fantastico software).
Their support is fast enough and the server’s speed good enough for my needs.

If you are looking for a budget reseller hosting provider i believe that Resellerzoom.com should be in your plans.
Cheap and good enough services !
I keep there 3-4 small sites and had 0 problems untill now.

My overall ratings for Resellerzoom: 8/10 (excellent prices!).
